Mensa Glossary

Like any other organisation, Mensa has it's own jargon. Here for the first time... a Mensa glossary.

AG - Annual Gathering. An Annual Event, often a weekend but can be as long as a week. In most countries the AG takes place in a different city each year.

Icebreaker - An informal party with games, food and a bar where people get to know each other. At weekend events this is on the first evening, usually a Friday.

LocSec - Short for Local Secretary. This is the organiser for local meetings in an area.

MIL - Mensa International Limited. A parent organisation, based in London which promotes Mensa globally and is funded by duies from each national Mensa.

RG - Regional Gathering. A get together- usually a weekend.

RO - Regional Organiser. Someone who coordinates all the LocSecs and events in an area.

SIG - Special Interest Group. A group within Mensa for a particular interest, e.g partysig for parties, compusig for computers. Many SIGs produce a printed newsletter for subscribers. Many have now got their own website. eg. http://partysig.co.uk
